This week we have completed the design, fabrication and installation of two more routed (sandblasted) HDU signs. We created these signs for our customers Cry-X and XplorAmerica Health, Inc., both in Wesley Chapel, FL (near Tampa). Their outdoor custom signs turned out amazing and they truly stand out from the crowd – we are very proud!

About our customers this week

To share some background information on our customers, Cry-X is specialized in nitrogen-based cryogenic treatments on humans for reducing inflammation, improving athletic performance, and potentially slowing down signs of aging. For their session, you will enter a special cryogenic chamber, which cools the body down very fast, way below freezing temperatures – but just for a few minutes. The idea of sudden temperature changes of the human body is to remove toxins and allow blood that doesn’t have these toxins (or inflammatory components) into that area.

XplorAmerica Health, Inc. provides healthcare services by working with affiliate medical professionals, hospitals and universities. At this location, they are opening a medical clinic facility, in association with USF (University of South Florida). They will focus on Reproductive Endocrinology and Fertility services.

Regarding these signs

These signs had once again to follow their community (HOA) standards: 3’ x 5’, arched on top, painted black and gold. The sign for Xplor America also has two removable plaques with physician’s name and phone number (which later on will have two more plaques added, totaling four).
The material used for these signs was a 1.5” HDU (high-density urethane), carved down to create the 3D components.
We designed both signs to customers’ content, then submitted approval documentation to their HOAs. Once approved, signs were routed on our CNC routing machine, then painted black and gold. These outdoor signs were then installed on their offices’ exterior wall.
Even though these signs are standardized, having exterior signs makes a big difference for businesses, specially in an office complexes where the units are very similar looking. It helps them promote and reinforce their brand, and their customers to easily find their location. On the other hand, outdated, ran down, or badly designed signs can have an opposite effect on people as they do not portray business reliability and care. It is very important to keep your custom outdoor signs in tip-top shape, and/or if installing new signs, to make sure their design is properly done, so it has a better flow (thus, better perception by the end-user).

Routed and Sandblasted signs in Tampa, FL

This week we have produced and installed a new outdoor office sign for the Beach House (www.beachhousewiregrass.com, an Assisted Living and Memory Care community in a full-service, resort-like setting) community in Wesley Chapel (Tampa), FL. This 3’ x 5’ sign was made out of 1.5” HDU (High Density Urethane) and carved on our CNC (Computer Numeric Control) Router.
The process was similar to what we have done before: we work on a layout with the customer until they are completely happy. We do this by following the guidelines provided by their HOA, then we submit to the community’s management office for approval.
Once approved, we move it to manufacturing, where we carve the sign in our office, paint it black, then add the gold accents to it. The end result is an upscale looking sign, with materials perfect for outdoor use. High Density Urethane will not bend or warp in Florida’s hot and humid weather ad will stay looking great for many years.

Our installation process is done in a way where the sign can be easily removed if the customer decides to relocate, with minimal damage to the wall behind the sign.

Routed Signs vs. Sandblasted

Routed signs are done by computer-driven machines, called CNC Routers. Our machine allows us to create signs with with high precision and consistency. We can control precisely how deep we want the carving to be and how thick each element in the sign should be.
High-quality routed signs have been replacing sandblasted signs in the past few years.
Sandblasting is a more traditional process, where masks are applied to the material, then the background is manually carved by sandblasting with a high-pressure pellet jet. These signs have a more rustic look with background texture and less sharp edges on some elements, where routed signs are sharper and more precise. If necessary, we can also apply background textures to a routed sign, but on signs such as the one for the Beach House it was not needed.

Timelines

For the first phase, we will provide our customers with an initial layout idea in a two days. Revision cycles are done as soon as we received feedback. Paperwork and renderings are provided to the HOA a day after the customer approved its layout.
Once the HOA approves the documentation (timelines depend on how fast their internal process is), we start carving the sign next day. Paint takes two days due to the paint drying process and multiple coats applied.
Overall, we have been able to deliver the signs, installed, in about two weeks from the initial contact. This is much faster than average industry standards, and our prices are very competitive.
