Routed Sign for a Great Customer: North Pointe Church

We were contacted via referral by North Pointe Church in Tampa, FL, to help them reface an existing monument sign. This is for their new church, and their site is still under construction. It will be ready in a few weeks for the grand opening.
This job was fairly complex, as the sign was to be routed on a 2″ HDU plaque (high-density urethane or “sign foam’), texture applied to its background, painted in brown with routed brushed aluminum face. We also had to repair the stone wall and cut it straight to have the sign fitting right.
Here is the entire process:

  1. Routing the sign on our CNC Router machine

Custom Signs

Adding custom signs on the exterior of a building always comes with some amount of challenge. In Tampa, FL, the major risk to outdoor signs is the weather. Over time, the signs can change color or the weather can weaken the signs. This is why North Pointe Church decided that the best option for their new sign was a HDU routed sign.

What are HDU Sandblasted Signs?

HDU or High-Density Urethane is industrial grade foam that is very durable.  HDU is not only used not only to create custom signs, but it can also be used to make 3-D displays and models. Sandblasted signs are blasted with sand at high pressure, which cuts away layers of the foam and allows for even the smallest designs to be carved into the sign.

Why Pick HDU Custom Signs?

When you are having custom signs made you will have a few options for the base material. HDU is one of the best materials that have become popular in the last few years. HDU is an excellent option for custom signs because it is weather-resistant, so it does not crack, or warp likes other types of signs. We treat all of our signs with a weather-resistant coating to make sure that Tampa, FL weather does not damage the sign.
Since each layer of the foam is removed one thin layer at a time, you can have any design carved into the foam. We can also have raised areas because we can cut the areas around the design. This allowed us to create the sign for North Pointe Church since we used both techniques to create a 3D sign.

The Lifespan of the Custom Signs

One of the major benefits of using HDU custom signs in a community is that they are super easy to clean. Along with being weather-resistant, the coating that is used can be power washed. This allows you to clean the sign within minutes. The signs can also be repaired in the future, especially if the sun bleaches the colors or there is damage to the sign after being outdoors for many years. This is why North Pointe Church chose to use a HDU sign that it is going to look nice for a long time and they can easily clean the sign if it is dirty.
The North Pointe Church sign is only one of the HDU custom signs that we have made. Our custom signs are weather-resistant, which makes them a great option when you need a sign that will be outdoors for a long time. Since HDU is made from foam, it is better able to stand up to the Tampa, FL weather. The HDU signs are also easier to clean compared to other signs.
